TAP into Practical Reading

Enhance your reading abilities using every day reading material. We will utilize a broad variety of material that will vary in length and content. This content may include items such as: articles, texts and emails, poems, menus, recipes, etc. You will also sharpen other language and cognitive skills as we discuss what has been read.

TAP into the Bible

A multimodal language group with bible study as the focus. Stories, testimonials and discussions support a person’s interest in returning to reading the bible.

 

Our TAP into the Bible group has become one of the most attended TAP group programs, so we’ve added another one.  Join us at 12 noon OR 1pm.

Care Partner Support Group: Next Group 9/18

This ongoing support group is designed for care partners of individuals with aphasia. It offers a safe space to share experiences and discuss how aphasia impacts your life, among others who understand the journey. The group is facilitated by Abbe Simon, speech-language pathologist & health coach.

This group meets the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month at 12:00pm (unless otherwise noted). Upcoming dates:

Music Therapy Workshop: Next Group 9/18

This group is led by a Music Therapist and incorporates rhythm, singing, and all things musical to stimulate language and improve aphasia.

TAP into Reading (book club)

Each week, you will be assigned about 50-pages to read/listen to on your own. During this virtual group, you will focus on discussions about the plot, characters, etc. A typical book will span over 6-8 weeks, but you can join in anytime.

Week 1: June 2nd

  • Read: Prologue + Chapters 1–3
  • Focus:
    • Meet the main characters
    • Alice’s new life in Kentucky
    • Introduction to the traveling library

Week 2: June 9th

  • Read: Chapters 4–7
  • Focus:
    • Early library experiences
    • Growing friendships
    • Community reactions to the women

Week 3: June 16th

  • Read: Chapters 8–10
  • Focus:
    • Challenges delivering books
    • Learning about each character’s background
    • Themes of independence and belonging

Week 4: June 23rd

  • Read: Chapters 11–14
  • Focus:
    • Conflict within families and the town
    • Loyalty and teamwork
    • Changes in confidence and identity

No group June 30th. TAP Summer Break June 29th – July 5th

Week 5: July 7th

  • Read: Chapters 15–18
  • Focus:
    • Tension increases
    • Difficult choices
    • Relationships deepen between characters

Week 6: July 14th

  • Read: Chapters 19–21
  • Focus:
    • Major conflicts and misunderstandings
    • Support within the library group
    • Themes of courage and resilience

Week 7: July 21st

  • Read: Chapters 22–25
  • Focus:
    • Community pressure and consequences
    • Standing up for others
    • Emotional turning points

Week 8: July 28th

  • Read: Chapters 26–28
  • Focus:
    • Resolution of major conflicts
    • Character growth and reflection
