Helen began her career as a speech-language pathologist working with brain injury and stroke patients in the Neuro-Care Unit at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh. She has also worked as an SLP in skilled nursing, home health, and elementary school settings, and participated as an evaluator in a clinical trial for a potential treatment for stuttering. In addition to leading TAP groups and advocating for aphasia awareness, Helen owns Command Communication, PLLC. In her Raleigh-based business she helps professionals leverage their voices to connect with others and make a positive impact when they speak. Helen is a classically-trained singer, former elementary choir teacher, and Distinguished Toastmaster with Toastmasters International. She was named North Carolina’s Outstanding Toastmaster of the Year for 2016-2017 and served as the speaker coach for TEDx Raleigh in 2017 and 2018.
