This week we are focusing on self-advocacy! We need to take our healthcare and our rehabilitation journey into our own hands! Remember, you will care more about your getting better than anyone else!
We don’t like to think it could happen to us, or someone we love, … but emergencies DO occur. And if you have aphasia, it is complicated by the communication barrier. If the person you love with aphasia has a medical event (i.e. becomes ill, has a seizure, etc.)… you will be asked for basic medical information.
Please make a form that you can use (Example Of Medical Summary). Leave a copy in your purse and several copies in your health binder. It saves you from repeating yourself and reduces the likelihood of errors.
Medic-Alert jewelry or Road ID are other good options (www.roadid.com)
These things are available to you from TAP and are strongly encouraged! Please ask your group leader or email Maura English Silverman ([email protected]) if we can help!
