Community Re-EngagementLife participation and quality of life itself are the underlying principles of the Triangle Aphasia Project. The LPAA ( www.asha.org ) clearly defines attainment of life and living goals as a guiding value for our service to individuals with aphasia and recommends ceasing the pursuit of those objectives only when an individual him/herself chooses. Increasing participation in an individual's activity of choice with the support he/she needs to succeed in that endeavor is the focus of our Community Reengagement program. The resulting impact on the community at large is naturally significant in areas of community access, understanding and advocacy for aphasia. All Community Reengagement plans are unique to the individual, designed with the intent to reduce barriers to communication by providing support, training and/or volunteer accompaniment to avocational/recreational and/or vocational activities. The Triangle Aphasia Project at WakeMed Rehab will assist in the designation of specific goals, arrange volunteer options, accompany and train individuals within the desired setting.
